Logan Local magazine

Recently, Gail Forrer from the Local News Group, interviewed me about my experience of being awarded a Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grant for my first solo exhibition. It really was a life changing event for me, in that the funds allowed me to create a framed collection of work that was exhibited not only at Logan Art Gallery, but also at Tuggeranong Arts Centre and Woolloongabba Art Gallery. Several pieces were also shown at West End Art Space. As a result I sold many of the works to private collectors, and Logan Art Gallery acquired Remember to Live for their public collection. The piece, New Normal, won the people’s choice award at the Queensland Regional Art award. Three of the works were also finalists in art prizes - The Ravenswood Women’s Art Prize, Whitehall Art Prize, and Gosford Art Prize.

I’ve since gone on to be a finalist with newer work in several more art prizes including the Northern Beaches Environmental Art and Design Award, Kangaroo Valley Art Prize, and Lethbridge 20,000 Small Scale Art Award. I have had a second successful solo show, Historia Naturalis, at Redland Art Gallery. The work, Vanitas Curio, from this collection was projected on to a building as part of the Logan City Council Projection Project. And, I have once again been awarded a RADF grant for my upcoming exhibition, Ex Libris, to be shown at Logan Art Gallery in 2025.

I have also gone back to university to complete a Master of Visual Arts. It has been a lot of hard work, and a lot of fun. A lot of showing up in the studio, self doubt, research, experimentation, failure and success. There has been a lot of times where I wasn’t ready for something, but I jumped anyway and built my wings on the way down. I feel driven to keep creating, learning and sharing my art work, and I am so thankful for all the support I have received.
